Where to find a dog walker or dog day camp for a Pit Bull in Detroit Metro?
I have a 7 month old pit bull named Kina. (She is all kisses) I work two jobs and I am looking for someone to either walk her on Fridays or take her to a day camp for that day every week. I rush now to let her out at 5 when I get off one job but I have to be at the other at 5 30, thankfully they are very nice and let me come a little late if she takes a while. I love walking with her, and playing. She gets plenty of excersie the other days of the week. I'm just having trouble because day camps that i've found dont take "bully breeds" even though she's not even close to aggressive. I don't know how the dog walking works either because I don't completely feel comfortable giving someone a key to my home and letting themselves in while l'm not there.

- I used to own a pit bull, but I don't live in Michigan. I thought that the breed was not allowed in MI b/c of dog fighting? That might also be part of your difficulty, though I know first hand Pits are all about environment, not what breed they are. Good luck.
- I'm not sure about metro Detroit, I'm out near Ann Arbor, so there's probably some different options out here, but I also have a similar problem with my dog. He's a Boxer, but since he's been in two major fights (intact males who have fought over a female in season), and I'm honest about it (because he has obvious scars and issues with certain male Golden Retrievers now), I can't find a place for him either. Thankfully, I work for a vet, so he can come and sleep in a kennel, but I'd like him to be able to play. The only suggestions I have would be to talk to people who are in the bully community (breeders, show families, etc) who may know of more open minded day cares in your area, or talk to friends or neighbors who you trust to see if anyone would feel comfortable walking her. Best of luck with her, I'm sure she's great :) To Lynda - Pits are allowed in Michigan, however the Detroit Humane Society (that is featured on Animal Planet) has a kill policy on any pit or pit mixes that come in because of the strong fighting lines and history in Detroit. There are areas, just like every where in the country, that they are banned, but they are allowed in the state.
- i have a pit mix and was lucky enough to find a daycare that goes by the individual dog, not by the breed. he has done WONDERFUL there, and it has really changed our lives! if you can't find a daycare to take him, which i hate to say will probably be the case, check out dog walking companies in your area. if you go through a professional dog walking company, they should be insured, etc. these people do this for a living, so i think you will be safe to trust them in your house. go with someone who will give you references and who you can meet and "interview" before hand. also, make sure they have experience with big bully breeds!
