Is camping along the Russian River - not at a pay site - legal?
I am planning a camping and canoe trip along the Russian River in Sonoma County, CA. I don't want to stay at a public (pay) site but rather would want to camp along the river or on one of the river islands. I know it is public land - but is it legal?
Public Comments
- No, it's not. There are a couple of spots on the river that are privately owned where you can do that, but you still have to register and pay.
- It's only illegal if you get caught.
